Did you make New Year’s Resolutions?

80% of new year resolutions fail within 6 weeks. Will you be one of them?

I don’t because I believe if I want to change something I can do it any time of the year, but it is a great time of year to think about what you want and how to achieve it. I do set goals for the year.

A lot of people make big jumps as part of their new year resolutions. I definitely see this in fitness, the gyms and classes are full during January and February, then it goes all quiet again.

I believe a lot of new year’s resolutions fail because people are trying to do too much.

For instance, if someone never exercises, never goes to the gym, never goes to a class, doesn’t even walk to the shop on their road, starting the year going to the gym 5 days a week is a recipe for failure.

Yes, 20% will keep it up and love it.

But the rest will lose motivation.

However, if the person had decided they wanted to get fitter and started small, one session a week, and slowly built it up, then the goal is much more achievable and more likely that they will keep it up.

What I’m saying is keep the next step small.

If you want to run a marathon and have never run before, you don’t start by running 26 miles. You start by walking/easy running and build it up.

Break your goal down and do it bit by bit. It makes it so much easier to stick to and achieve it.

Let me know what your new year’s resolutions are and if you need a hand breaking it down to make it easier to achieve. xx
