Are you listening to your body?

Have you ever gone to a fitness class and found you couldn’t do the exercise you did in the last class or an exercise you’ve always been able to do?

This was something I was talking about today with another PT.

I have had lots of clients who’ve been in my Pilates class and commented that they were able to do the exercise the week before but now they can’t.

I can see them getting frustrated and keep trying to push through.

Sometimes we have off days.

It could be you had a stressful week or didn’t sleep well or are recovering from a cold or haven’t eaten well or your period is due. There are a number of reasons why your body isn’t functioning as well as it normally does.

And that’s ok!

It is important to listen to your body. If it isn’t up to doing a particular exercise, don’t worry about it, it is telling you to take it a bit easier. Take a step back and possibly do an easier option or do less repetitions.

Pushing through or getting frustrated isn’t going to help.

In my classes, I’m always happy for people to take a step back if that’s what is right. (Obviously, I don’t want people slacking, but I do want them to listen to their bodies).

So, next time you feel like it is a struggle to do a fitness class you normally do, tune in to your body and listen to what it is telling you.

Actually listen to it, so you can work with it and not against it. It really makes all the difference. Why not book into a class now?
